The convenience store retail business is the largest 7-Eleven licensee in the United States and operates approximately 300 convenience stores in central and west Texas and New Mexico.

Role Summary

The Pump Mechanic installs, troubleshoots, repairs and maintains lubrication, hydraulics, power transmission, mechanics, steam and pneumatics systems throughout the facility. This role ensures the facilities equipment operates at maximum efficiency. The Pump Mechanic utilizes a variety of cranes, lifts and hoists, to perform the required tasks.

Job Accountabilities

  • Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.

  • Responsible for repair, rebuild, and preventive maintenance activities involving hydraulic & pneumatic equipment including motors, pumps, valves, conveyors, compressors, and drive trains (including bearing, input shafts, gearboxes, couplings and belt drivers)

  • Determines changes in dimensional requirements of parts by inspecting used parts and adjusts functional parts of devices by using rules, calipers, micrometers, levels, and other measuring instruments

  • Operates drill press, hydraulic press, bench grinder, pipe threading machine, pipe bender, cutting torch, band saw, lifting/rigging equipment, forklift, overhead crane, etc.

  • Analyze and interpret equipment manuals, blueprints, control diagrams, schematics and drawings to determine work procedures, materials, tools and equipment needed to troubleshoot and repair equipment problems

  • Inspect machines for misalignment, wear, insufficient lubrication, repairs, replaces, adjusts, installs and maintains gear reducers, chain and belt drives, couplings, braking devices, bearings, pumps and linkages, blowers and compressors

  • Inspects hydraulic, pneumatic, and auxiliary equipment for faults, misalignment of pumps, brakes, overheated pumps, incorrect pressure, etc. and advises operation personnel of necessary precautions to prevent excessive damage

  • Operates various hoisting and lifting devices as necessary during the installation and repair of machinery

  • Works from scaffolds and man-lifts and performs blocking and rigging as required

  • Works effectively without supervision

  • Communicates well with employees from all areas of the facility

  • Utilize computer to perform part search and create spreadsheets

  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED and three (3) years of mechanical or industrial maintenance experience

  • Demonstrated safety training in an industrial environment

  • Proven experience with millwright or machinery maintenance

  • Ability to install, maintain, troubleshoot and repair refinery rotating equipment

  • Proven ability to safely operate forklifts, overhead cranes, man-lifts, etc.

  • Ability climb and work from scaffolds and man-lifts of various heights

  • Must be willing and able to work shifts, call-ins, holidays, and overtime

  • Solid written and verbal communication skills

  • Demonstrated ability to read, understand and update pump and machinery drawings

  • Proficient computer skills and utilizing several different computer software programs, including but not limited to Windows, Microsoft Office, CMMS

  • Ability to work in confined spaces and wear self-contained breathing apparatus or fresh air mask

  • Ability to lift fifty (50) pounds and climb vertical heights up to 200 feet

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States

  • Must be able to pass pre-employment background screening and drug screen

Preferred Characteristics

  • Associate’s or Technical Degree in a mechanical or industrial maintenance discipline

  • Completion of an apprenticeship/journeyman program

  • OSHA 10 or 30 hour certification
